Chocolate Candy Cane Hearts

Uncategorized

7 Oct
Do you have left over candy canes from Christmas each year? Even if you don’t the dollar general and dollar tree are full of them (most of the time they are 70% off right now).  Grab some candy canes and lets make a special gift for Valentines Day!
I love to make handmade items as gifts. I just feel they are more thoughtful and priceless.
This idea comes from looking at a cane candy.  I had all ingredients from my after Christmas shopping haul. So, it just took a little time to make.

These are the items needed for this idea:

*Chocolate you can melt

*Candy canes

*Microwave safe dish

*Spoon to steer chocolate with as melting

*Wax paper

*Oven top or microwave

First, I Placed wax paper over the top of the countertop.

Next, place about a half a cup of chocolate pieces in the microwavable bowl. Place it in the microwave to heat up. You will want to do this in 30 second increments.

Stir the chocolate as you’re warming it. This is to prevent it from burning the chocolate.

Next, place the two candy canes toward each other.  You should see them form a heart.  Spoon the chocolate in the center.Filling the empty spots. Make sure the chocolate is touching the candy canes. As it starts to harden, it will keep the form of a heart. If you are placing these on lolipop sticks, now is the time to add them (before the chocolate hardens).

The next step is fun. The kids will especially love this part! Add some candy canes into a zip lock bag. Take a hard object from your kitchen and beat a few of the candy cane pieces. We will use this to garnish on the inside of the heart.

I had some leftover marshmallows in my cupboard, so I also used those to garnish the hearts.

I had some leftover chocolate as well. But not enough to fill in the heart. So I placed it on a plastic spoon (these are great for stirring cocoa!) Then I  Garnished with peppermint pieces. To speed up the process, I placed all three pieces in the freezer for about 10 minutes to set up.

Nothing speaks LOVE like something handmade with Extraordinary love. I hope you enjoyed another DIY on a budget.
Of course you can decorate these hearts any way you wish! You can use different color or flavored cand canes, white or dark chocolate, and limitless garnishments! Don’t forget to show me yours!
