Do it Yourself Home Decor: How to Make a Quick Budget Friendly Farmhouse Riser

DIY's· Home Decor

19 May

Would you love to learn how to make a quick, budget friendly Farmhouse Riser? I absolutely love home decorating on a budget, but sometimes decor is just way too overpriced. I have a simple yet gorgeous way to make your own farmhouse riser for almost no expense! Most of the supplies are bought from Hobby Lobby, and considering that they are small pieces it shouldn’t cost more than $10. This farmhouse riser was created in my vision for a shabby chic, farmhouse asthetic but if that isn’t your aesthetic of choice, feel free to change it! Now then, let’s get into how to make this farmhouse riser!

What you’ll need:

  • 4 knobs (you can get these from Hobby Lobby or any hardware store)
  • White paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Platform base
  • Magnolia stencil
  • Wax
  • Magnolia paste
  • Wood glue/super glue, hot glue

To begin, paint the 4 knobs white. Only paint on one layer, try to keep the distressed look.

Next, grab your base and dry paint white onto it. Again, try to keep the distressed look. That is only if you’re choosing to maintain the farmhouse aesthetic.
Afterwards, prep your Magnolia stencil. You’ll do this by ‘de-fuzzing- the stencil.

Continuing, prep your base with some wax. Use a light layer, but coat it entirely. This is helpful in case of any accidents with paint or the stencil paste.

After you have prepped your base and stencil, you can align the stencil to your base as shown. Make sure to press the stencil down as best you can to prevent any bleeding with the paste.
Furthermore, using the Magnolia white paste, not ink, apply it to your stencil with a downwards motion. Apply a thicker layer if you would like the stencil to be prominent on the base.
Finally, peel back your stencil. Do this carefully and gently so that you do not stretch out or tear the stencil.
To complete your farmhouse riser, glue the knobs onto the bottom of the base and allow to dry. I also added a few finishing touches to the base itself, like sanding it down to make it smooth and adding some more dry paint for a more rustic look.

Finally, you have a wonderful farmhouse riser to display in your home!
