How to make a Nautical Wall Decor

Crafts· DIY's· Home Decor· Summer

27 Apr

Nautical decor is the perfect way to bring the feeling of life at sea into your home. For those who are unfamiliar with nautical decor just think about anything that can go in the sea is considered nautical. I love the sea and was very excited about adding some nautical decor to my home. Today, I will be sharing a nautical wall decor DIY idea. I transform two Dollar Tree wood pallets and turn them into shabby chic nautical wall art. As always, you can watch the video replay below, don’t forget to comment #replay on the video so we know you saw it! Now lets get into the craft, all you need is what’s listed below..

Supplies Needed for nautical wall decor.
FIRSTLY, LETS GET YOU A SUPPLY LIST:
  • 2 Wood Pallets (Dollar Tree)
  • Wood Stain
  • Paint Brush
  • 5 Popsicle Sticks
  • Vaseline (Dollar Tree)
  • White Chalk Paint
  • Blow Dryer
  • Scissors
  • Ink Pen
  • Gardening Scissors (Dollar Tree)
  • Gorilla Glue
  • Anchor & Sailboat Wood Pieces (Dollar Tree)
  • Half Beads (Amazon)
  • Blue Paint
  • Fish Net (Dollar Tree)
  • Jute String
  • Silver Pen
  • Farmhouse Bead
SECONDLY, LETS GET INTO MAKING THE CRAFT:

I started this craft by taking 2 wood pallets from Dollar Tree and staining them. You may need to use more than one layer of stain just depending on how your wood soaks it up. Next, I took 4 popsicle sticks and painted them with the wood stain. Afterwords, I took some Vaseline on a paint brush and applied that into the creases. I love this technique, it gives it a shabby chic look. Finally, I took the white chalk paint and applied it to the wood pallets. I used a generous amount of white chalk paint..

THIRDLY, LETS PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON This DIY NAUTICAL WALL DECOR:

This next step is one of my favorite parts. I took my extra popsicle stick and ran it down the wood pallets. As seen in the video, this technique helps pick up where the Vaseline and paint are on the pallets. This gives it a really unique look. Next, I took the finished popsicle sticks to cut and glue 2 onto each pallet. Afterwords, I take the extra white paint left on the brush and go over the popsicle sticks to break up the brown and create that rustic look. To finalize this craft, I took my anchor, sailboat and half beads and placed them on the pallet to decide where I wanted to place them. I decided to place two half beads on each popsicle stick after painting them white. Afterwords, I placed the wooden sailboat/anchor in between the popsicle sticks on each pallet..

FINALLY, YOU HAVE MADE Nautical Wall DECOR:

To finalize this craft I paint both the anchor and sailboat this beautiful sea blue. While they were drying, I took some fishnet and glued a decent amount down to both pallets. Next, I glued some jute string around the anchor. Afterwords, I added a few small finishing touches as seen in the video. This includes adding a little turtle to one of the pallets and also adding small white dots onto the sailboat. I then make sure everything is secured into place. Now you have made this beautiful Dollar Tree nautical wall decor. These pallets turned out beautifully and add that sea life feel to your home.
